Enhanced Access

New general practice services for patient in North and West Doncaster to launch on 1st October 2022.

At the moment the local general practices who are part of the Doncaster North Primary Care Network (PCN) provide extended hours services to their patients on weekdays.  From 1 October the practices will double the amount of hours of care provided and operate clinics on Saturdays as well as every weekday evening until 8pm on a rota basis.

Local staff will provide the bulk of the care to local patients and this will be funded by the new integrated care board called NHS South Yorkshire.  All ten practices in the network have joined forces to get the new clinics up and running and are consulting with patients and other health and social cares services on how to offer the best service to meet local needs.

PCN lead GP, Clinical Director Dr Greg Connor, said: “General practice has been struggling to cope and the patients we serve have sometimes had a very hard time getting the access to health services they need. All the practices in my network have seized the opportunity this new funding offers to do more for our patients.  Staff are willing to work over and above their usual hours to provide this service and a local pilot scheme has proved very successful.  We are short of the doctors, nurses and support staff we need but this service will allow us to do more with what we have by banding together as a network and using new staff roles like pharmacists, physios, mental health practitioners, dietitians, health coaches and care co-ordinators.”

Patients will be able to book appointments in the new service through their practice reception teams as well as an online service.  Doctor, nurse and other appointments will be available across all the practices in the network making the service truly local.
